Actuated, Control and Relief Valves

A valve is a device that directs or controls the flow of a process fluid by opening, closing, or partially obstructing one or more of its ports. As such, they are found in virtually every industrial process throughout the oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and water industries

Valves may be operated manually e.g. by a handwheel, they may be automatic e.g. driven by changes in pressure, temperature, or flow, or they may provide control based on an external input e.g. a 4-20 mA signal from a process control system. In this latter case the valve is sometimes referred to as the "final element" of the control loop.
